If your Expert Advisor (EA) is not trading as expected, please review the steps below.
Step 1: Enable Algorithmic Trading
- Open MT5.
- Click Tools → Options.
- Go to the Expert Advisors tab.
- Ensure that “Allow algorithmic trading” (or “Allow automated trading”) is enabled.
Also, confirm that the AutoTrading button in the main toolbar is activated.
If enabled, the AutoTrading icon should appear active in the toolbar.
Step 2: Check EA Activation on the Chart
After attaching the EA to a chart:
- Look at the top right corner of the chart
- You should see a smiley face icon (or EA status icon)
If you see a sad face or no icon, the EA may not be properly enabled.
Step 3: Check the Logs for Errors
If everything appears correct but the EA is still not trading:
- Open the Toolbox panel (bottom of the platform).
- Go to the Experts tab.
- Review the messages and error logs.
The log will display:
- Execution errors
- Trade restrictions
- Missing permissions
- Other technical issues
Additional Considerations
- Ensure your EA is compatible with MT5 (MQL5).
- Confirm that your account has sufficient margin.
- Verify that trading is allowed for the selected symbol.
